T-Moore Rum Race: THSB/RVYC

Christmas holidays are not complete without the T. Moore Boxing Day Rum Race, co-hosted by our friends the Turkey Head Sailing Bunch & RVYC.

This much loved tradition starts just before noon with a reverse handicap start, the course is around Chatham and Discovery Islands. Prizes and after social are held at Royal Victoria Yacht Club

Please see the SIs for all the details, including a table showing start times. All boats are welcome to this informal, fun Christmas racing tradition on Boxing Day, December 26th.

The events are open to keeboats and multihulls with a valid PHRF-BC certificate.

Boats without PHRF ratings are welcome to register for the race but must receive a provisional rating assigned by the race committee. Please contact the race officer at racingfleetcaptain@rvyc.ca no later than 1800 Tuesday December 23 to arrange a provisional rating.

There will be no notices to competitors, no skippers meeting and no signals made.

The first start is scheduled for 1140 hr on December 26, 2025.

Boats must finish before 1600 hr on December 26, 2025

The course will be from the Todd Fiddle transit, around Discovery and Chatham Islands in either direction (if clockwise leaving and the Fulford Reef Buoy “VK”, Brinn Rock and Seabird Point to starboard and the Chain Islands to port and if counterclockwise leaving the Chain Islands to starboard and Seabird Point, Brinn Rock and the Fulford Reef Buoy “VK” to port) and then to the finish.

The Start Line will be the line formed by the transit of Todd Rock and Fiddle Reef, with one end at Todd Rock, and Vancouver Island at the other end.

Boats must cross the start line in a north easterly direction to start.

Each boat is to start at the time shown that matches its rating.

The Finish Line will be the line formed by the transit of Todd Rock and Fiddle Reef, with one end at Todd Rock, and Vancouver Island at the other end.

Boats must cross the finish line in a south westerly direction to finish.

Each boat is to record its finish time using GPS timing.

Within 60 minutes of finishing, each boat must text or email its name, rating and finish time to: Stuart Dahlgren 250-588-0906 racingfleetcaptain@rvyc.ca

Scoring of the race will be by GPS finishing time as reported by individual crews on completion of the race.

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $2,000,000 CDN per incident or the equivalent.

The first boat to finish will be awarded the coveted & beautiful T. Moore Rum Race Classic Trophy.

Prizes will be awarded to the first boat to finish in each of the five divisions: PHRF <120, PHRF 121-169, PHRF > 170, Multihulls and dinghies.

Other prizes may be awarded for outstanding feats of seamanship, or facsimiles thereof, at the discretion of the race officer.

Prizes will be presented in the RVYC Chart Room no later than 1700 or earlier if all boats have finished.

Skippers, or their representatives, must be present to receive their prizes.
