5 Course
5.1 The sailing portion of the course will be from Cadboro Bay to the Johnstone Reef
Buoy (approx 48 28.8N 123 16.4W) to the range line formed by the lamp standard
located on the North side of the North launching ramp at Cattle Point and the
Cattle Point Day Marker– this range shall extend to a maximum of 30 metres from
the Cattle Point Day Marker (approx. 48 26.4N 123 17.5W).
5.2 On completion of the sailing portion of the event vessels proceed to their moorage
location at RVYC. Vessels that do not normally moor at RVYC may temporarily
use the Visitors (V) Dock. A vessel must be de-rigged with sails stowed and all
equipment put away before the crew may leave the vessel.
5.3 After mooring and de-rigging the crew must proceed up to the RVYC Clubhouse
Shoreside Vestibule, aka “The Folly”. The RVYC flagpole is a mark of the course.
5.3 The Johnstone Reef Buoy is to be rounded to Starboard.
5.4 The RVYC flagpole is to be passed on the right hand side of the crew heading to
the clubhouse.
5.5 Exclusion zones within the race area are shown as red regions in the attached
Appendix A.
6 The Start
6.1 Prior to the start all vessels must be at anchor North of a line between the orange
flag on M/V Discovery Isle and the white buoy, “Cookie”, to the NORTHEAST.
While at anchor all vessels must have no sails hoisted.
6.2 The preparatory sound signal will be at 1300 hours GPS time,
6.3 The start sound signal will be at 1301 hours. After the start sound signal the crews
may pull up the anchor and hoist sails to start racing.
6.4 This start sequence changes RRS Rule 26.
7 The Finish
7.1 Vessels must approach the Cattle Point day marker range from the NorthEast so
that the Cattle Point Day Marker is left to Starboard of the finishing boat.
7.2 Once a vessel has passed the Cattle Point Range Line, they may lower their sails
and proceed under motor to their berth. If the vessel chooses to sail this leg of the
course from this mark to her berth, all sails and equipment must be stowed before
the crew can proceed to the Finish Location.
7.3 The finishing location will be at a table in the RVYC Clubhouse Shoreside
Vestibule. On the table will be a horn. A vessel has finished when the skipper, with
all crew present, blows the horn.
