If you've ever been to the village of Cold Spring, NY, you would have noticed that there are 3 mountains looming over the village. On the east side of the Hudson, there's Breakneck Ridge and Mount Taurus (aka Bull Hill) and on the west side Storm King Mountain. I call them the **Hudson Valley Trifecta**. **YOUR MISSION ... SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT ... IS TO MOVE THEM MOUNTAINS 😆**

**FIRST UP: Breakneck Ridge**

**Those who know me know when it comes to hiking trails, Breakneck Ridge is King … of my heart 😆😍**

**Don't let the name scare you. Breakneck is QUITE DOABLE AS LONG AS YOU COME PREPARED AND KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. I have taken many Breakneck "virgins" up the mountain several times, and everyone loved it** 😆 **As long as you come prepared and know what to expect and together with a heavy dose of adventure, YOU CAN DEFINITELY CONQUER BREAKNECK!!!** 😆

**What to know about Breakneck:** THE FIRST MILE IS ALL ROCK SCRAMBLING USING YOUR HANDS AND FEET. There is an easier alternative route if you do not wish to do the scrambling. That's the NIMHAM TRAIL which consists of STONE STEPS IN PLACE OF THE ROCK SCRAMBLING. After that first mile, terrain is "standard" hiking and terrain ranges from MODERATE TO STRENUOUS.

**PLEASE BE HONEST ABOUT YOUR FITNESS/HIKING ABILITY when signing up for this hike. We will go at SLOW LEISURELY PACE (THERE IS NO SHAME IN GOING SLOW) AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT OVER THE SCRAMBLING PART.**

**ABOUT BREAKNECK:** You may have heard of Breakneck Ridge. It is often listed among the "best hikes" in Hudson Valley, if not in America. Located about 90 miles north of NYC in Hudson Highlands State Park region, it is one of the most adventurous – and most rewarding – trails to hike. Besides having an impressive name, this hike offers a challenging climb and some of the most striking views of the Hudson Highlands. The trails on Breakneck Ridge test hikers of all ages with steep rock ledges and then reward them with sweeping views of the Hudson River.

**GETTING THERE:** We'll meet at Grand Central to take the **7:50AM** train to **BREAKNECK RIDGE STATION**. ONE-WAY OFF-PEAK ticket is $15.25

***\*\*YES I Know it's early but Breakneck is going to be PACKED at later hours, so let's get there early and enjoy some solitude before the annoying crowds get there \*\****

**NOTE**: You can also pick up the same train when it stops at Harlem-125th Lexington station or any station outside of Grand Central. Just check [http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm](http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm) for exact train times from your boarding station.

**PACE**: Hiking pace will be **LEISURELY**, with lunch, water and snack breaks as needed; as well as taking time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, take photos, hug some trees, and most importantly, socialize with your fellow hikers, ***AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. WE COME TOGETHER, WE HIKE TOGETHER AND WE FINISH HIKE TOGETHER. NO PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP if you feel the need to channel your inner Speed Demon!***

**THE IMPORTANT STUFF:**

* Dress in non-cotton layers.
* Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking - ***YOU MUST HAVE PROPER HIKING SHOES OR YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY. THIS IS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND THE GROUP'S SAFETY***
* Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
* Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
* Carry your stuff in a backpack. ***YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR HANDS FREE AS THERE WILL STILL BE SOME ROCK SCRAMBLING WHILE WE'RE MAKING OUR WAY UP BREAKNECK***

**WHO SHOULD COME:** Only the brave and happy hikers should come. Sense of adventure and a positive attitude are a must. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home. **WHINERS AND COMPLAINERS PLEASE STAY HOME.**

**DURATION**: We'll be out the entire day.

**AT THE END OF THE DAY** we’ll leave from Cold Spring station.

**POST-HIKE:** For those interested, we'll do celebratory eats and drinks in **COLD SPRING** before heading home

**WEATHER**: ***NOTE Breakneck can only be done in DRY CONDITIONS. So rain will cancel!***
