This group is aimed at forming a community of the many Asian-Americans and allies living in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where we can build meaningful connections and celebrate the rich, cultural heritage and diversity of Asian Americans.
We are: people of Asian-American/Pacific Islander descent and allies who appreciate community and good food! Our group is a safe and inclusive space for people of East, Southeast, South Asian or Pacific Islander descent, including those who are adoptees or bi/multi-racial.
Join us to explore the Twin Cities, make new friends, and of course, eat great food. We look forward to meeting you!
Details/requests:
- Please post a picture of your face so we know who you are.
- Be respectful of the group- especially since events can be small, if you can't make it, notify the organizer ASAP so that someone else can attend.
- We encourage members to suggest and organize their own events that reflect their interests and hobbies.
- Some events are specific spaces for AAPI folks, and some will be for all including allies
- Be kind to everyone- we are all here looking for connection and support!

WACIPI - or POWWOW - is a traditional Native American gathering. It is a time for renewing friendships and making new ones, dancing, singing, and celebrating to honor the traditions of their ancestors. Vendors will be selling handmade goods and food.
*Please be respectful at the event, and read the etiquette below:
- The first and foremost rule of a powwow is to show respect. This includes respecting the dancers, their regalia, the songs, the elders, and the overall cultural significance of the event.
- If you want a particular dancer or group of dancers to pose for a photograph, please get their permission (ask if okay to take their pictures).
- Do not call Native American outfit 'costume', refer to it as 'Powwow regalia'- Worn with responsibility and pride, the clothing represents community traditions and personal tastes.
- No drugs and alcohol; wear modest clothing. The Grand Entry is the ceremonial opening of a pow wow, where dancers, drum groups, veterans, elders, and dignitaries enter the dance arena in a procession. It's a formal event marking the start of the pow wow festivities, often led by veterans and Head Dancers carrying flags and an Eagle Staff. The Grand Entry is a time for reflection, respect, and cultural expression, with specific protocols to follow. Powwows also provide a space for Native Americans to connect with their roots, teach younger generations, and educate non-Natives about their culture.
*As you can see I have been copying and pasting most information above as I don't wish to mis-convey the true significance of the Native American heritage and symbols :) Thanks for your patience. I enjoyed attending these POWWOW events in the past, it is exciting, colorful, and educational for sure!
