MapReduce design patterns are all about documenting the knowledge and lessons learned of the seasoned Hadoop developer so that new developers can leverage the experts’ experience in solving problems. This talk will outline a few of the popular and fun patterns and give an overview of the rest. We'll also talk a bit about the book MapReduce Design Patterns and the new open documentation project mapreducepatterns.com.
Speaker: Donald Miner serves as a Solutions Architect at EMC Greenplum, advising and helping customers implement and use Greenplum's big data systems. He is the author of the book "MapReduce Design Patterns", a book on Hadoop that is published by O'Reilly. Prior to working with Greenplum, he architected several large-scale and mission-critical Hadoop deployments in the U.S. Intelligence Community. He is also involved in teaching, having previously instructed industry classes on Hadoop and and at the University of Maryland, Baltimore county taught a variety of artificial intelligence courses. He received his PhD from the University of Maryland, BC in Computer Science, where he focused on machine learning and multi-agent systems in his dissertation research.
