Sat AM(10/18) Fall Colors Hike at Frontenac State Park + Lunch in Red Wing

Let’s meet up for an invigorating Fall colors hike at the scenic Frontenac State Park! Following the hike, (optional) join us for food/refreshments at Scarlet Kitchen & Bar just up the road in Red Wing 406 Main Street, Red Wing, MN 55066

We'll hike about 5.5 miles at a medium pace (19-20 minute mile) for 2 – 2.5 hours, with occasional stops to hydrate and take in the scenery. The park is known for it's 425 feet of staircases and switchbacks on the river bluff trails. We will hike those trails, as well as through hardwood forest, prairie and bluff-top trails. The terrain is uneven and varies with rocks, roots, loose gravel, mud and dirt. You may want to consider hiking poles for this trail.
These are challenging trails, but worth it for the great views of Lake Pepin (Mississippi River). Eagles and Turkey Vultures are a common sighting along the steep bluffside trails.

There are modern restrooms at the trailhead, with a couple of pit toilets along the trail. Drinking water is available behind the wood shed near the ranger station/park office.

Each car will need a MN state park pass. The prices are: $35 for an annual pass and $7 for a daily pass.

*DOUBLE CHECK YOUR MAP APP: Sometimes, the app will direct you across the river to Maiden Rock, WI, which is 20 minutes away from the park.
Once you pass the ranger station/park office, follow the road all the way to the end, where the parking lot is located. We will meet on trail at the northwest end of the lot.
