Saturday AM Hike at Murphy-Hanrehan –Prior Lake +Oishii Japanese Ramen&Donburi

Let’s meet up for a medium paced ~5 mile winter hike at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve! Following the hike, (optional) join us to warm up with lunch/refreshments at Oshii Japanese Ramen & Donburi, 7711 Egan Dr, Savage, MN 55378

The peaceful wilderness at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve features glacial ridges, hilly terrain and an extensive, lush forest. With the exception of the trails, the park reserve remains undeveloped. This park has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society.

THE HIKE: Expect to hike about 5 miles at a medium pace (~19-20 minute mile) for ~1 ½ - 2 hours. Time and pace may vary based on trail conditions. We will pause a couple times to take in the natural surroundings and hydrate. We will be hiking the southern trails, which are less hilly than the northern section, through prairie, woods, ponds and wetlands. Trails are of bare earth, sand, rock, turf, snow, packed snow and ice with some rolling hills and low/wetland areas. We will be hiking wide multi-use trails. Based on expected trail conditions this time of year, grippers(ie: Kahtoola Microspikes) and/or hiking poles are recommended.

Facilities: There is a decently maintained vault-type toilet at the trailhead. No bathrooms along the trail.
Please bring water from home as there is no formal drinking water station at the trailhead.

*we are meeting at the horse camp trailer parking lot on Sunset Lake Rd (NOT the recreation lot by the bike trail and dog park).
