Spring Wildflower Hike at Fish Creek Natural Area
Details
This will be an easy-paced hike at the Fish Creek Natural Area and Open Space. Hike will begin with an overview of the area with a 1-mile asphalt trail across an open rolling prairie with expansive bluff-top views of the Mississippi River Valley. We will venture into the woodlands on narrow earthen trails featuring a winding, bedrock-cutting creek, steep hills, fallen tree obstacles and many stops to enjoy the views and native wildflowers found along the way. There will be a prize for the person (or team) who identifies the widest variety of wildflowers!
Ten years ago, this space was in limbo between commercial developers and public land preservationists after archeologists found stone tool flakes and pottery shards left by Woodland Indians who occupied the area 9,000 - 11,000 years before the modern era. The city and county were finally able to acquire the land and in partnership opted to minimally develop the space to ensure it's natural and cultural resources are here for current and future generations.
Following the hike, join me for lunch at Obb's Sport Bar and Grill, 1347 Burns Avenue in St Paul.
Manage your RSVP responsibly as attendance is limited to help ensure the enjoyment of attendees; if you must cancel do so a minimum of 24 hours before hike time so any wait-listers can have an opportunity to be notified and attend what should be a very enjoyable event.
No kids, dogs or +1's on this event.
It's tic season and this is a brushy area so take precautions.
Hope to see you there!
