Sat AM Hike at Frontenac State Park-Near Red Wing + Big Dog Daddy’s Roadhouse

Let’s meet up for a 6-7 mile hike at scenic Frontenac State Park on the banks of Lake Pepin, the largest lake of the Mississippi River! Following the hike, (optional) join us for food/refreshments at Big Dog Daddy's Roadhouse in Bay City WI, across the river from Red Wing. W7037 135th Ave, Bay City, WI 54723
THE HIKE: We'll hike 6-7 miles at a medium pace (19-20 minute mile) for 2 ½ - 3 hours, with occasional stops to hydrate and take in the scenery. While the snow and ice on the bluff trail is melting and drying, we will explore the southern trails and the hiking club trail that include overlooks of Lake Pepin(Mississippi River) and the Pleasant Valley Lakelet. We will hike through hardwood forest, prairie and bluff-top trails. The terrain is uneven and varies with rocks, roots, loose gravel, mud and dirt.
FACILITIES: There are pit toilets at the trailhead, with a pit toilet along the trail. Drinking water is available behind the wood shed near the ranger station/park office.
Sorry, no dogs, +1s or children allowed on this hike. Only Twin Cities Hiking Meetup members who agree to these expectations and the Meetup Community Guidelines will be welcome on the hike.
PARKING: Each car will need a MN state park pass. The prices are: $35 for an annual pass and $7 for a daily pass.

CARPOOLS: Contact one another directly or post a carpool meeting time and place in the Comment section of this event page. Remember to coordinate whether you will stop at Big Dog Daddy's Roadhouse after the hike.
*DOUBLE CHECK YOUR MAP APP: Sometimes, the app will direct you across the river to Maiden Rock, WI, which is 20 minutes away from the park.
Once you pass the ranger station/park office, follow the road all the way to the end, where the parking lot is located. We will meet on trail at the north end of the lot.
