🏔️Mid-week Hilly Hike🥾at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve - Savage

Let’s meet up for an invigorating mid-week hilly hike at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve!

Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve is home for such rare Minnesota birds as the blue-winged warbler, acadian flycatcher, and hooded warbler. This park provides the essential nesting habitat requirements for these birds. Accordingly, some areas of the park/trails are closed April 1st - August 1st every year. We will explore some of those trails before they close for the nesting season.

THE HIKE: Expect to hike about 6 miles at a medium pace (18-20 minute mile) with 800-900 ft elevation gain in about 2 1/2 hours. We will pause a few times to take in the natural surroundings and hydrate. Trails are of bare earth, sand, gravel, rock and turf; with many hills and some low/wetland areas.

FACILITIES: There are a couple of decently maintained vault-type toilets at the trailhead. No bathrooms along the trail.
Please bring water from home as water is likely turned off this time of year.

Parking is FREE.

Sorry, no dogs, +1s or children allowed on this hike. Only Twin Cities Hiking Meetup members who agree to these expectations and the Meetup Community Guidelines will be welcome on the hike.

We will meet by the trail map at the shared parking lot for the dog park and mountain biking trails (NOT the horse trailhead).
We will do introductions and leave promptly at 4:35pm.
