🌞Father’s Day/Solstice Hike at Murphy-Hanrehan - Savage + Whiskey Inferno BBQ

Let’s celebrate Father's Day and the Summer Solstice with a 6 mile hike at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve! Following the hike, (optional) join us for brunch/lunch/refreshments at Whiskey Inferno Meat House & Craft Bar. Whiskey Inferno - Savage, MN

The peaceful wilderness at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve features glacial ridges, hilly terrain and an extensive, lush forest. With the exception of the trails, the park reserve remains undeveloped. This park has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. We will be hiking the southern trails, which are less hilly than the northern section, through prairie, woods, ponds and wetlands.

Expect to hike approximately miles at a medium pace (~18-20 minute mile) for about 2 hours. We will pause a few times to take in the natural surroundings and hydrate. For an extra workout, CONSIDER BRINGING YOUR PACK! This is optional, but I will be wearing my weighted pack for this hike.

Trails are of bare earth, sand, rock and turf, with some hills and low/wetland areas. We will be hiking wide multi-use trails, so we may pass some horses.
Protective clothing or DEET bug spray should be considered for potential ticks, mosquitoes and other bugs that are active at this time of year. Sunscreen and/or protective clothing are also recommended – some sections of the trail are out in the open with few trees for shade.

FACILITIES: There is a decently maintained vault-type toilet at the trailhead. No bathrooms along the trail.
Please bring water from home as there is no formal drinking water station at the trailhead.

PARKING: this is a Three Rivers park, so parking is FREE!

LOCATION: *we are meeting at the horse trailhead parking lot on Sunset Lake Rd (NOT the recreation lot by the bike trail and dog park).
We will meet at the trail map sign by the parking lot.
