Usually Bob leads a barely adequate hike at Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington while many of the regular Friday morning Hyland hikers go on monthly hiking trips to nearby state parks. But not this time. Bob has decided to go on the lamb (temporarily) so Bev will try to one-up Bob by leading a "slightly better than barely adequate" hike at Hyland this Friday, September 18, for those people who are unable to join the Hyland super hikers who will be hiking at William O'Brien State Park and enjoying wine and lunch at Rustic Roots Winery after the hike.

So be ready to hike on trails that you never knew existed! We will go off the beaten path for several segments and then take a few of our tried and true routes over to Richardson for a walk on some newly widened trails. It will not be too fast or too slow, but slightly better than a barely adequate hike. In other words, it will be just right for all hikers. The route will be about 5.5 miles in length at a moderate pace of about 17.5 minute miles. There will be an early out for those who need to limit just how much fun they have, thereby electing a shorter hike.

Please meet up outside the Visitor Center (next to the children's play area) no later than 8:30 am. We will get going whenever everyone arrives, but not later than 8:35. Don't be late! The restrooms are open and a cold water fountain is available to fill your water bottle both before and after the hike. Cold water always helps after a day lost in the woods with Bob! But not this time! since Bev promises not to loose any hikers on this slightly better than barely adequate hike!

If you sign up but just can't force yourself to come, update your RSVP so some other unsuspecting hiker gets an opportunity to hike this slightly better than barely adequate hike at Hyland!

A light rain will not deter us from this hike but heavy rain or a thunderstorm will send us scurrying indoors to keep from getting soaked. If it appears a soaking is predicted, Bev will cancel the hike no later than 7:38 am.

Questions? Send Bev a message or leave a gently sarcastic comment in the Comments section below.

Hike at your own risk (an obvious warning). It's a lovely park so even if you get lost in the woods, you'll be fine. Follow the birds and wildlife back to civilization.

Bev really wants to see you on the hike!
