October's discussion was about AI and how the future of AI depends on the goals and priorities we have for AI, which are in turn choices that require thoughtfulness and engagement.

For November, I thought it would be interesting to follow up and discuss current research on decision-making - notably, on the dichotomy of emotion versus reason.

Please listen to two of these podcasts (I use Google Podcasts, but they should be available in any podcast app):

Can You Really Trust Your Feelings? Lisa Feldman Barrett & John Dunne (10 percent happier with Dan Harris 47min)

Jonathan Haidt on the Righteous Mind (EconTalk, 1hr 4min)

Daniel Kahneman: Thinking, Fast and Slow (Talks at Google, 1hr 5min)

Follow the Anomalies (Hidden Brain, 49min)

It will be interesting to hear how much of this is familiar to you and whether the current understanding of emotion in logic and decision making agrees or conflicts with how you were taught as well as your own observations and experiences in the world!

Please come a little early to make your café purchase(s). I'll have a sign on a table nearby and we can gather tables as needed. The store closes at 9pm, so I'll set an alarm for 8:45 for closing comments.
