Thursday Sunset Yoga at the Sculpture Garden

Details

The Twin Cities Yoga Cooperative invites you to another season of sunset yoga at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. The theme is “Cherish the Moment” which coincides with cherishing the long & warm evenings this time of year. There is no obligation to attend, however donations are appreciated to help cover the cost to make this event possible (Venmo - https://account.venmo.com/u/theyogaambassador / Cash App - https://cash.app/$yogaambassador). All levels of experience are welcome! Class will begin at 7:30 PM and will be held between the main parking lot and the Spoon & Cherry in front of the Okciyapi sculpture. For insurance purposes, I ask everyone who has not signed an online waiver in the past to sign one prior to their first class. The link for the waiver is here.

If you need more details on what to expect, read below:

Regarding Parking/Bike Transportation: There is a parking lot near the class location that charges a $4 flat fee per day. If you ride your bike to class, please do not lock your bike to a tree. Instead, utilize a nearby bike rack near the Walker entrance or place your bike within sight of the class. The Twin Cities Yoga Cooperative is not responsible for loss or damage to property.

Type of Yoga Class and Intensity: This is a Vinyasa style class, which means a series of postures combined with your breath. Expect to burn around 200 calories with moderate intensity. There may be a potential for some difficulty with certain postures. If the class become difficult or you have some physical limitations, modifying a yoga posture is always encouraged. Always consult a doctor if you are not sure if participating will exasperate any condition you may have. If you have specific questions about the class which can include what can you do to modify a posture, you may inquire with the yoga instructor.

The Ins and Outs of the Class: The season will run between May 29 to August 7. All classes will begin at 7:30 PM and will last for 60 minutes. After August 7, the sun sets before the end of class, thus why the sunset yoga class ends when it does. To get situated, plan on arriving in the area at least 10 minutes prior to the start of class. If you happen to arrive after class started, no worries. To minimize distractions, place your mat in an open area somewhere near the edge of class. Once class has begun, please do not attempt to grab the attention of the yoga instructor in a manner that is disruptive to others in class. There will not be any type of amplified sound, so please place your mat within the walking paths that surround class so the yoga instructor does not have to overly project their voice.

Note on Yoga Mat Placement: It has been a trend over the years that many people place their yoga mats toward the back of class. There is nothing wrong with that, just understand the yoga flow often goes in a circle (or what is called a mandala) and those in the back will suddenly be in front of class for a short period of time.

Note on Donations: The Twin Cities Yoga Cooperative does not take any sponsorship money and is completely self-funded to provide a wholesome experience to the public. Costs include park permit fees, insurance premiums, towels & essential oil for the ending of class, etc. Donations are greatly appreciated and consider any contribution as ownership of your experience!

Inclement Weather: Adverse weather or poor air quality may affect whether class is held. The instructor will attempt to give a 2 hour notice if class is cancelled. In cases where there may be a chance of adverse weather and it isn't clear if class will be affected, the instructor plans on holding class unless the circumstances suddenly change.

About the instructor: This class will be taught by Andrew (or Andy) Craddock, the founder of the Twin Cities Yoga Cooperative. This is his seventh season teaching at the Sculpture Garden and his twelfth season of teaching yoga in the park. Andy believes principles derived from yoga provides tools to constantly evolved into better versions of yourself. Andy’s biggest passion outside of teaching yoga is he loves to take stunning landscape images while traveling to unique areas.
