Kafka Summit: A look back and a look ahead/ Repartitioning a Kafka Streams Application

Abstracts:
Kafka Summit: A look back and a look ahead:
As a member of the program committee for Kafka Summit, I am proud of the content presented at Kafka Summit London 2022. With Confluent making it available on-demand let me help curate it for you so can find the content that can help you with your journey of learning Apache Kafka, With Current 2022 happening in Austin, TX in October, I would love to get to know your use-cases and help you submit your abstract.

Repartitioning a Kafka Streams Application:
Repartitioning and Major Data model changes to a Kafka Streams applications are two very specific examples of challenges in upgrading a Kafka Streams Application. At Kafka Summit I presented over 10 areas to make it easier to upgrade Kafka Streams applications. Today I will take one of the hardest and demonstrate it. Repartitioning can also give the opportunity to evolve data models as well; so both will be shown.
* What you can do when you absolutely need to increase the number of partitions within your application.
* What you can do when you aggregate model needs to change.

Bio:
Neil Buesing is actively involved with the Apache Kafka community. He has presented at multiple Kafka Summit events, including the most recent Kafka Summit London 2022. He is a current member of the Kafka Summit Program Committee. He is a Confluent Community Catalyst and presents at many meetups and active in the Confluent Community Slack. He works on enterprise systems developing streaming applications; with a Kafka Streams focus.

Learn how Target uses Apache Kafka to build scalable warehouse management and replenishment systems that helped them respond to peak shopping demand levels at a constant level through the pandemic.

From Event-Sourced inventory systems, to CQRS warehouse applications, to integrations with robotics and warehouse automation systems. The power of data streaming helps move toilet paper from manufacturer to the shelf.

Bio:
Aaron Zirbes is a Principal Software Engineer of Data Movement at Target. He's been designing and building software for over 20 years. He's been an avid user of Kafka for over 7 years and was the Principal Engineer for the warehouse management space helping to modernize Target's replenishment pipelines with Kafka.
