What we’re about
Purpose/Mission
Two Open Doors is a metaphor for how deep relationships work. Like the connecting-doors that interconnect adjacent rooms in hotels, both partners in a deep relationship must open their respective emotional, mental and physical “doors” to each other, in order for them to connect. Doing so entails self-knowledge, mutual interest and compatibility, “emotional intelligence”, well-honed communication skills, and genuine mutual respect and caring. When those are present, a couple can create a relationship that provides tremendous personal satisfaction and growth.
The Two Open Doors Meet-Up is intended to serve as the hub of a community for those who wish to create and nurture deep connections in their lives, on a regular basis. This Meet-Up complements the Two Open Doors website (twoopendoors.com), the Two Open Doors podcast (available through several podcast directories, e.g. at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/two-open-doors/id1588173033), and the Two Open Doors private Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/645271539750218.
The community provides a “safe-space” in which members can explore deep human connection. Members are asked to adhere to a few guidelines that maintain a welcoming atmosphere. Our intent is to support members in sharing their authentic selves with the group, and in so doing, to create opportunities for deepening self-understanding and for initiating wonderful new personal connections. (This is not a dating group, though exploring deep connection may well help members discern and respectfully pursue new relationships with other members.)
Members
Two Open Doors seeks members who are committed to self-exploration and personal growth, and who understand and practice mutual respect and consensual relationships. While we’re fun-loving advocates of joie de vivre, we’re also intentional about what we do together, in the sense that life-opportunities need to be taken with respect and gratitude. As a group, we embrace sensuality, sexuality and intimacy as sources of personal satisfaction. While participation in any of our activities is of course voluntary, we encourage our members to be open to exploring in new, growth-promoting directions.
Events and Activities
Our core activity consists of a discussion group that meets bi-monthly. Our discussions will at least initially be online (Zoom meetings), due to COVID. Founder Claude provides interesting “seed” topics, and we also gather discussion topics from our group meetings.
In addition to his life-long interest in deep human relationships, Claude has professional training that he contributes to group discussions, including through topical presentations that may interest members. (He has a PhD in Human Sexuality and a Professional Sex Coach certification, in addition to extensive background and degrees in relationships and intimacy, neurobiology, psychology and engineering.) As someone living an alternative lifestyle, Claude is also prepared to offer some fresh perspectives on the broad spectrum of relationship types.
As soon as the COVID pandemic allows, we intend to offer in-person events in the Portland, OR area, since those are essential to developing deep connections. (We’ll of course adopt conservative meeting protocols, to keep participants as safe as possible.) These may include “hybrid” events that combine in-person and online presence. We’ll offer experiential seminars, as well as social events.
