Type Brigade is Vancouver’s typography and type design meetup. We’re excited to announced that Type Brigade №28 is on November 12th, featuring two talented instructors visiting for TypeCamp (http://typecamp.org): Shelley Gruendler and Xandra Zamora.
• Doors: 6:30PM
• Talks begin: 7:00PM
• No admittance during talks
Xandra (https://twitter.com/xandrazamora) was educated in the United States and England and has travelled extensively throughout her life. Although she has training and experience in nearly every calligraphic hand, she specializes in pointed pen lettering. She has run her calligraphy business in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years and her clients include numerous magazines, corporations, and distinguished clients. (Hint: you can see her lettering in Pirates of the Caribbean 2!)
Shelley (https://twitter.com/dr_shelley) is the founder of Type Camp (http://typecamp.org), and also the original founder of this meetup. She is a typographer, designer, and educator who teaches, lectures, and publishes internationally on typography and design. She holds a PHD and an MA in The History and Theory of Typography and Graphic Communication from the University of Reading, England, among other impressive qualifications. Shelley has presented at TypoBerlin, ATypI, TypeCon, How, and TEDx, and more, and is travelling the world for Type Camp. We’re very excited she’s coming back to Vancouver.
Sign up to take a Type Camp workshop with Shelley and Xandra the weekend after Type Brigade №28: learn Copperplate Script (http://www.typecamp.org/camps/copperplate-script-lettering/) on November 13th, and Gold & Silver lettering (http://www.typecamp.org/camps/gold-silver/) on the 14th.
We signify each Type Brigade with a new set of custom-lettered, masterfully printed numerals. A previous edition of Type Brigade featured these delicious numerals by Cade Cran (https://twitter.com/cadecran), and printed by Travis at Port Paper Co. (https://twitter.com/portpaperco) We’ll reveal our “28” numerals at the event.
Type Brigade is sponsored by Mobify and Port Paper Co. (http://www.portpaperco.com/)
Mobify (http://www.mobify.com/jobs/) are sharing their headquarters with us, thank you to them for letting us hold Type Brigade there.
Our friends at Port Paper Co. are sponsoring this event’s print. They are a impressive, custom letterpress studio and producer of fine paper goods. Print like it's 1450 all over again! (http://www.portpaperco.com/)
If you or your company is interested in sponsoring drinks at this meetup, or being part of a future event, send me an email at [masked] .
We’ll be photographing the meetup and possibly filming the speakers. The photos and video clips may be published on the Type Brigade websites or circulated to promote future meetups. If you have questions or concerns about that, please contact Kenneth at [masked] .
Beer is available at the event, making it 19+ with minors not permitted. Soda is also available. If you are under 19 and hoping to attend, or have any questions about this, please contact Kenneth as early as possible and we are happy to make arrangements: [masked] .
After the talks, we’ll walk to a nearby venue for food and drinks, and to continue our conversations. We’d love for you to join us!
