Type Brigade is Vancouver’s type speaker series. We have three very different talks lined up that’ll get you ready for something new this year!
• Doors: 6:30PM
• Talks begin: 7:00PM
• No admittance during talks
Kisyuu 書道家 姫洲
Kisyuu is a Japanese Calligrapher based in Vancouver. She’ll be speaking on her practice, and the beauty of Japanese traditional arts.
Alejandra Porta started a type and lettering series called Letting Go Project after attending a conference: spell the word out with things and write a blurb about how that word has affected me, and how I am letting it go. She says, “It was so liberating and empowering, and I got a lot of comments and personal messages on facebook and Instagram. I never thought I could connect with people that way!” Now, she’ll share her process of starting a lettering side project.
Puja is a graphic designer and type lover who is currently finishing her Master’s in Design at Emily Carr. She has been working on developing her thesis project which focuses on examining typography in the urban setting and developing ways to create a meaningful and interactive experience between typography, the city and its dwellers. In her talk, she plans to take us through her journey and showcase her latest developments.
About Type Brigade
Type Brigade is Vancouver’s typography and type design speaker series. Every other month, we host talks with local designers, developers, artists, and type enthusiasts in the city. We also arrange special events and workshops with type designers and letterers from all over the world, including Martin Jackson, Roxane Gataud, Lost Type, Commercial Type, and more.
We signify each Type Brigade with a new set of custom numerals which will be revealed soon!
Unbounce (http://unbounce.com/) are kindly letting us use their headquarters for the event!
Microsoft Vancouver (https://mcec.microsoft.ca/careers/) are our overhead sponsor, helping us cover the costs of running Type Brigade!
Thanks to both of them for returning to sponsor Type Brigade, and helping to grow the design community here in Vancouver.
