Details

Type Brigade is Vancouver’s typography speaker series. For our second event of the year, we’ll hear from Arabic calligrapher Tauheed Faheem, and graphic designer Lidia Perez!

Doors are at 6:30pm, talks begin at 7:00PM.

Speakers

Tauheed Faheem

Tauheed Faheem teaches Arabic calligraphy in the greater Vancouver area. Traditionally very structured and disciplined art, calligraphy can be very intimidating to newcomers.

His Grey Lines project provides an alternative for those who just want to learn about the general concept of calligraphy and pen control. At Type Brigade, he’ll share his journey from learning to teaching Arabic calligraphy, and what calligraphy means to him in our world today. http://tauheedfaheem.com/greylines/

Lidia Perez

Lidia Perez is a graphic designer based in Vancouver, via Tijuana. In the 2000s, she designed a font that went on to become part of a cultural movement evolving electronic music folk music named NORTEC collective. Internationally, they are now considered pioneers in it.

The root of this movement is to show the impact between US-Mexico cultures at the border. Lidia’s talk will look at the unique identity coming from this time and location, and the power of graphic design as expression, and as a complement to other disciplines.
