Angela Bains – The lost art of hand-rendering type

Typographic education in the 1970–80s focussed on craft, and desire to create beauty. Feeling each curve while tracing a letter gave the designer a respect for each letterform. Angela Bains will show us original examples of this process—and how designers are teaching it to a new generation today. http://transformexp.com/

Matthew Smith – The beautiful game

Football (Soccer) has a long tradition of being a source for inspiration and expression for designers. From flags, placards, banners seen on the terraces, to the squad numbers on the players shirts Football is a sport with a wealth of typographic heritage. In this talk, Matthew Smith will take us through this, and how it influenced a project he led at Engine Digital. http://www.matthewsmithdesign.net/
