FAQ's:

What should I expect?
We’ll take good care of you from the moment you arrive. Please get to Lee Valley White Water Centre 15 minutes before your booking to register. Once registered, one of our qualified members of staff will kit you out with all the equipment and clothing you’ll need and introduce you to your raft guide and group – now’s the time to make friends as team work is key if you want to stay aboard your raft!

Your raft guide will run through a full safety briefing and provide the basics in rafting techniques before taking you onto the lake where you’ll take part in some flat water exercises. While on the flat you’ll learn the secrets of safely navigating the world class white water course, whilst making the most of your experience. From this point on it’s action all the way!

Due to the speed of the rapids, this exhilarating experience is not suitable for anyone under the age of 14.

What do i need to bring?
All equipment is provided – just bring your swimmers and a towel. We’ll provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and wet boots. However, if you’d prefer to bring your own wet boots, and/or wetsuit please feel free to bring them along – we encourage you to bring a pair of old trainers if you’d prefer this to wet boots, but please ensure that they’re clean and have good grip. Open toe shoes such as sandals are unsuitable for this activity.

How many rund down the course will we get?
The raft guide will tailor sessions so each group will get the very best experience possible. Some people may prefer straight top to bottom runs, while the hardier may prefer to get stuck in and play on the stoppers and waves. Dependant on the type of group and duration of run you should expect at least four runs down the course.

How long will it take to go down each course?
It will depend on the ability of the paddlers and at what level of difficulty the course is set at. This can be changed to suit people’s requirements, along with what activities they are participating in. For example for the Games obstacles and gates will be set ensuring that the course is a real challenge for the Olympians.

  • 15m3 of water per second on the 300m Olympic standard competition course (this would fill a 25m swimming pool in around 30 seconds!)

  • 10.5m3 of water per second on the 160mTraining course

However this can be altered for people of all abilities and together with the training course will mean that the centre will be able to offer exciting water sport opportunities for a wide range of people.

Do i need to be fit?
A reasonable level of fitness is required to take part in any physical activity.

Our group may have mixed experience. Can we still all go together?
Yes, the raft guide will tailor the session to meet the collective groups expectations.

How many people can go in a raft?
A raft can take upto a maximum of 9 people.

What happens if i fall out?
You will get wet! You will be briefed on what to expect and how to safely exit the water.

What are the two courses?
Between the two courses and the lake, the centre has a full range of white water grades from 1 to 4. This allows opportunities for all levels of paddler to access the facility with opportunities to develop their skills.

Hi Zeena, I think that Benjamin and Megan are still trying to sell theirs..?

      May 31, 2013

  • Wolf

Hey guys, Jonel was going to be coordinating the groupsave tickets for those catching the 14:22hrs train (platform 7) from Liverpool Street but unfortunately has had to pull out at the last minute for work reasons. Still congregate by the main information desk in the central hall around 2pm & i'm sure you'll recognise other people seeming to 'hang about' & just get into 4's for your cheaper tickets there. It's a 10 minute walk to the White Water Rafting centre.
Leave Waltham Cross station and follow the pathway to the main road. Turn right along Highbridge Street (away from the roundabout) Proceed down Station Road for approximately half a mile, the centre is on the left hand side.
A map is available on this link: http://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/lee-valley-white-water-centre/plan-your-visit/#howtogethere

Maria will be waiting at the reception ;-)

    May 31, 2013

  • Noelle Q.

Hi Wolf, are you able to assist me with the purchase of the last spot?

    Thanks

    May 20, 2013

    • Noelle Q.

Hi Wolf, Heidi has hurt her foot and needs to withdraw from the event. My friend will pay her directly so when I book her spot it I won't be making a payment or would it be better to leave Heidi's name on the list with conformation that the payment has been made to Heidi? Thanks for your help Noelle

      May 28, 2013

    • Noelle Q.

Wolf, thank you for your help, the monies are being transferred to Heidi by Steve Irvine. See you tomorrow in Liverpool St @ 2pm

Hi Benjamin, that's a shame, you're missing a great day, but I suppose me telling you that doesn't help ;-) You can contact those on the waiting list by clicking on their name which will go through to their profile, you can then send them a direct message. Good luck!

      May 30, 2013

  • Heidi

I am hoping to sell my spot as I unfortunately hurt my foot climbing :( Please email me on [masked] if you'd like my spot. I hope you organise another date soon!

    May 27, 2013

    • Dan M L.

Hi Heidi, I might have it. Ill come back to you :)

      May 27, 2013

  • Dan M L.

Wolf, out of interest I wear contacts - would it be advisable to wear lite swim goggles in case of falling into the drink !?

    May 18, 2013

    • Wolf

Hi Dan, i can't remember the official advice on that one now but i'd say bring some along and you can always check with the activity centre staff giving your briefing. You WILL go under water at some point! ;-)

      May 27, 2013

  • Noelle Q.

    Many thanks for the timings.

I would like to book the ;last spot for my friend but I'm nit sure about how to go about it, can you assist?

Sounds so fun would love to do this but think I need two spots- can you let me know if there is more room?

    May 11, 2013

  • Wolf

    Hi Guys,
By the time we reached a viable number & i tried to book the rafts, there was a technical problem with the venue website during which time our preferred time was taken. I will change the event to whichever of the 2 options below receives more comments in favour....
    1) Sat 1st - 3pm ...or
    2) Sun 2nd - 12pm (Mid Day)

    April 23, 2013

    • Christopher B.

My preference is Sat 1st at 3pm

      April 23, 2013

    • Wolf

Ok guys thanks for the replies, looks like 3pm on the Sat won the day, however that is now also booked (going bloody fast) so i booked 4pm. Will change event now ;-)
