Geminids Meteor Shower

For all who are fond of the night sky, this is your night!

Join us on a night like no other, to observe one of the most amazing events of the year, the Geminid's meteor shower, an event suitable for all ages. This year the moon rises late so will not inhibit the dark sky, combined with telescope observations to view a variety of celestial wonders, making this evening like nothing you've experienced before. WE will start the evening with the two gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn, followed by a cool evening of up to 120 meteors per hour. Later around 2am we will observe the moon rise, followed by lunar telescope observations.

We will gather at the set location at --<< 3:00 pm >>--. Please make sure you are not late-plan to arrive 15-30 min early. This is imperative because once we leave the gathering spot at 3:30 pm, you will have missed the opportunity. Reaching the final location will take around 20 mins. As much as we would love to have everyone, unfortunately, we are very short handed when it comes to organizers. We are simply individuals who love to share the experience and our passion for the night sky with others, so we will not be able to accommodate late arrivals. Hence, if you are not going to make it on time, I'm very sorry to say, please stay home.

Here are some very important tips to ensure you are well prepared:

1. Make sure your car is full of petrol, and yes you do need a car, 4x4 is not required, however, you will have walk and carry your stuff for few meters away from the main road.
2. Make sure you have warm clothes, it gets seriously cold in the desert, minimum of 10 degrees below city temp.
3. Don't forget to bring a chair to sit, meteor showers are not observed standing.
4. Bring your favorite snacks and drinks. You are all, however, required to leave the location as clean as it was when you arrived-the only thing that should be left behind is foot prints. Bring a trash bag with you, and ensure to gather all your trash, keep it with you and dispose of it upon reaching the next petrol station. Littering will not be tolerated.
5. Alcohol is strictly prohibited.
6. There are no bathroom facilities, so plan accordingly.
7. Your kids, your stuff, your car and your trash are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, so let's all act responsibly.
8. You are free to leave at any time, however, please be careful on your way in & out. Beware of camels, insects, sand piles on the road, potential visibility issues and speed bumps.
