Introduction:
Ubuntu User Group New Zealand is launching, and our inaugural event is about bringing together the people, businesses, students, developers, engineers, makers and curious minds who use, build with, or simply want to understand Ubuntu and open source.Ubuntu:
Most people know Ubuntu as a free, open source operating system. But Ubuntu is much more than a desktop OS. It powers laptops, servers, cloud platforms, containers, AI workloads, edge devices, IoT systems, robotics and enterprise infrastructure around the world. Canonical has stated that Ubuntu runs more than 60% of cloud workloads, making Ubuntu Server one of the most important operating systems behind the modern internet and global cloud infrastructure. (Ubuntu)
Ubuntu also has a long history of showing up in some very cool places. Google famously used an Ubuntu-based internal Linux distribution called Goobuntu for many of its employees. (Datamation) Ubuntu has been connected with NASA and space-related robotics, including Ubuntu/ROS environments used in robotics projects, and Canonical has also partnered with NVIDIA to support enterprise AI, accelerated computing and open source AI infrastructure. (Ubuntu)About this event:
This first New Zealand event is designed to be open, practical and community-led. Whether you are a student using Ubuntu because it is free and open source, a developer building modern applications, a systems engineer running servers, a cybersecurity professional, an enterprise technology leader, or someone simply curious about Linux and open source, you are welcome.Speakers:
Dale Wheeler from Canonical Ubuntu will deliver an update on the latest Ubuntu release, with further speakers to be confirmed.Submissions to Present:
