UC Berkeley Cloud Meetup 037: UCOP's Digital Transformation

Details

This month the Cloud Meetup will host Cloud champion extraordinaire Kari Robertson. Kari presented at UCB Cloud Meetup 007 back in 2019 about her work with the UC Santa Cruz team as they moved the needle to widely implement AWS there. Since then, Kari has joined the UC Office of the President, where she is now their Executive Director of Infrastructure and responsible for leading their successful cloud transition.

Talk Details:
Kari will share an inside view of digital transformation at UCOP, and talk about the interconnectedness of culture, innovation and what their organization needed to do to embrace new ways of working. From vendor management, and the realities of reengineering important applications and teams properly for the cloud versus meeting costs and timeframes-- Kari has brought a pragmatic approach that is bearing fruit, including the recent retirement of the UC Mainframe computer. She will share the good, bad, and the ugly from that work. For campuses thinking about moving more of their infrastructure to the cloud, this should be an entertaining and informative, clear-eyed view of how it's worked at UC. There will also be plenty of time for your questions and general discussion.

Everyone is welcome - this is a really inclusive group! Even when the talks seem very technical you don't have to be an expert, or already know about cloud technologies; we get together so people can learn from each other.
