Don’t walk away - this presentation isn’t all about Data Vault!
Yes, it is widely recognised that a Data Vault’s design should be based on how the business sees their data, not how the source system structures its data. We’ll briefly cover some of that.
But what if the same business perspective (that should drive a Data Vault design) is actually a valuable asset for much more than “just” Data Vault? Maybe you don’t even want to deliver a Data Vault, but you do want to:
- involve the business in strategic planning
- use their perspective to lay foundations for master data management
- have an independent benchmark to evaluate a proposed package’s data structure
- drive a Data Fabric or Data Mesh initiative
- define a detailed and somewhat technical “ontology” to facilitate interoperability between external stakeholders
- invest in almost anything where data in silos is actually shared with others (isn’t that almost always?)
You most certainly don’t want to spend years and millions of hard-earned cash developing an excruciatingly detailed specification describing how the business wants IT to structure their data. The alternative is - what John Giles is calling - a Data Town Plan.
Finally, what if you want the business to value your contributions, and to value you?! Then please join us for a fun and informative exchange of ideas.
