Uke Building Workshop UPDATE!

From: Mark L.
Sent on: Monday, September 3, 2012 6:51 PM

Hey, gang!

Here’s the update on the DUH Uke Building Workshop! This is a VERY detail intensive email. Please read thoroughly for answers to your questions!

Roy Wood and I have put together two of the Wolfelele kits, and are confident that we can coach the most novice participant through the project!

We will be opening the ordering process SOON - stay tuned for dates and locations to be announced on meetup.

Basically, you will be ordering directly from -- You will have about a month to order as part of the DUH group order.

We are waiting for a reduced shipping charge for DUH to order and ship as a group.

The group order will be limited to the regular model, in Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Baritone sizes. Prices range (without shipping) from $49 to $109, depending on size.

Once we have the reduced shipping charge, you can place your order, including a codeword "TO BE DETERMINED", and pay the reduced shipping charge. This may be a significant reduction, since shipping alone for individuals is about $30! I will send out an email as soon as this is available.

The “group shipped” ukes will not be sent to individuals. Instead, they will be sent to me, and you will have them available to build at the workshops.

Want something more?
Wolfelele manufactures a cherry wood model as well. This will not be a part of the group order, so you will be responsible for the full shipping charges.
You may order the cherry wood models immediately, have them shipped to your home, and bring it with you to the workshops.
For all the models, Roy has volunteered to help with options like wood stain and wood burning designs. We are still discussing options to keep possible designs simple so that it won’t be too time consuming for Roy, or for the wood stain not to be too expensive.
Here are some pictures of Roy’s cherry tenor model.

Workshops will be scheduled late in October. The workshops will be about 2 hours, but you will need to leave the ukes overnight to set. So, plan on coming back the next day to pick up and string your ukulele. Each workshop will be limited to eight participants to make sure we can provide enough individual attention. We will make sure to have enough workshops for everyone who orders a kit! We will post workshop dates when we open up the ordering window.

We are planning on using private residences for security – If you have a large room with a "workshop type" of table and seating for eight, and want to volunteer your home, let me know!

In order to participate, you will need to do two things. Once we announce the ordering window is open, you will need to:
1) Place an order with for a ukulele.
2) Sign up for a uke building workshop
Then just wait, and get excited!
