Format:
We will use the kanakapila format of everyone taking a turn to choose a song from the songbook with the whole group singing and playing along. You can choose to perform a song or bring a new song one with around 20 copies to share. You can also pass your turn.

When it is your turn, we strongly encourage you to lead the song using the mic and sound equipment provided. We encourage everyone to have a go doing this, because having someone at the mic helps keeping the song moving along with bass and percussion.

• Please do not attend if you are unwell.
•Our expectation is that all attendees will be at least double vaccinated to protect the vulnerable and immuno-compromised in our group and their families.
• We ask you to maintain a social distance of 1 person per 2 square metres so please bring your own music stand.

Hello Ukesters!
I am happy to announce the next series of Ukulele Lessons for Beginners, starting 17 June, 2025. The course is designed for people who would like to play the ukulele but don’t know where to start. This easy paced program consists of 5 lessons which will give you all the basics – how to tune the strings, most frequently used chords, strumming techniques and how to play a variety of songs.
By the end of the course you should be able to confidently play about 12 chords and dozens of songs.
The course is led by Michael Rosenberg (that’s me), a qualified teacher with many years of guitar and ukulele experience. I am co-organiser of URoC (Ukulele Republic of Canberra) and have taught ukulele to over two thousand students over the last fourteen years.
The lessons will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 – 8:30 at the Brindabella Room at St James Church, Curtin and will have a maximum of 8 participants
The dates are:
June 17, 24, July 1, 8 & 15. The cost for all five lessons is $100 which covers room hire, all notes and weekly dropbox links to videos and audios of the techniques and songs we cover in each lesson.
Please make sure you RSVP on the club website to ensure a place for yourself as the class size is limited to 10 participants.
It is important that you have your own ukulele, but if you don’t, please contact me on 0412 093 958 or through the website any time to discuss options. If you are unsure as to whether or not you want to commit to buying a ukulele before you know whether you like playing it, I have two ukuleles that I hire out. Ask me for details.
