Umbraco Open House - An Entry Point for Newcomers

Details

Are you new to Umbraco? Are you Umbra-curious? If so, this casual workshop is for you!

We'll start by chatting a bit about what kinds of technical problems a content management system solves. You'll get a basic walkthrough of what Umbraco does as a content management system. You'll learn about creating content models and templates, and about using those models and templates to create and manage content on a basic website. We'll work through things together, and you'll leave the session with a foundational understanding of how to be productive in Umbraco’s Backoffice, as well as next steps for learning more or getting more engaged with the Umbraco community.

Prerequisites

  • To make the most of this session, it's helpful for you to have the latest .NET SDK installed on your computer. We'll be using that to create and manage a local site to work from, and while there is no pressure to follow along during the session, this will help you hit the ground running when you're ready.
  • While prior experience with C# and .NET is not strictly required for this session, it is very helpful to have a foundational understanding of how websites work, as well as basic knowledge of programming concepts like objects, properties, variables, templates, conditional statements, loops, etc.
  • For sharing work and interacting on the Umbraco Forum, you'll also need a GitHub account.

Can't make it to this session?
If you can't make it to this particular session, fret not! We are holding them monthly on the first Thursday of the month (generally). Send us a message and let us know, and we can make sure you get an invite to next month's session.
