The Evening's Talks and Demos:
-
From OU Apprentice to OU Graduate: Building a Career and a Degree at the Same Time
by Tom Prynn - Analyst Developer @ Aspire Systems
I’ll share my journey from Open University degree apprentice to graduate while building a career in software development. I’ll talk about the realities of balancing work, study, and life, the challenges along the way, and the lessons I learned from the experience. -
Copilot CLI: Testing AI Agents on a Production Project
by Vicky Howells - Analyst Developer @ Aspire Systems
GitHub Copilot CLI brings AI agents directly into the terminal — but what does that look like on a real, active codebase? This talk covers what GitHub Copilot CLI is, how to configure it, and what it looks like in practice: using it to deliver features from first prompt to PR and running AI-assisted code reviews. -
Learning how to host scalable websites on a home-made cluster!
by Carl Sargunar - Umbraco MVP & Technical Director @ Mondo Media
Bringing the cloud to the conference, I'll replicate a scalable, load-balanced environment to host Umbraco containers and demonstrate key concepts around Load Balancing in a fun and interactive way! Using a cluster of mini-computers, a router and some networking magic, we'll re-create a cloud in a mini-cluster and see how it copes with scaling, load-balancing, outages and downtime.
This talk will pull together a small cluster that anyone can build with some old hardware and networking, and with freely available open source software we can put together a highly available stack to host your applications and give you the tools and theory to do the same!
Why Join an Umbraco Meetup?
Umbraco Meetups are a great way to engage with the Umbraco community and meet other web developer and software engineers. These events allow both experienced users and those curious about the platform to learn, share experiences, and showcase their work. It is a welcoming space for asking questions and building professional connections. Whether you want to learn or contribute, a meetup is the perfect place to start!
Venue
The meetup will be hosted at The Open University in Wales, 18 Custom House St, Cardiff CF10 1AP, which is a less than 5-minute walk from Cardiff Central train station.
