[Partner Event] Mass Incarceration: A Look at the Prison System in America

Let's join our friends at the Humanist Association of Orange County.

We have all heard the term mass incarceration, but what does that really mean? Join us as we discuss the reality of the jail and prison system in America, from where it started to the current day reality. Who is most impacted, and what does that mean as we look towards the future? Christi’s presentation will provide an overview of the many aspects of the carceral system and factors to consider in discussing this relevant societal topic. More importantly, we will cover not just the current system, but opportunities for change and reform, and will provide resources and actions for those looking to learn more or become involved.

After a 15-year career in hospitality sales and management, in 2013 Christi transitioned into her family business, managing a large nonprofit company store.

Christi dedicates a significant amount of time to giving back to the community including volunteer work with Zonta International, with her local club and as Area Director for Zonta District 9. She is the Board Chair for Girls on the Run Orange County, the Board Secretary for Youth Employment Services, and is enormously proud of her 5 years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). She has previously served on the board of several business and community organizations.

As part of her work on racial justice, Christi focuses on the carceral system in America, especially it’s impact on minorities and women. She is a member of Initiate Justice Orange County and is working to educate others on the crisis of mass incarceration. In the political realm Christi has volunteered for local and national candidates, leads training for the Sierra Club, and is an active member of the League of Women Voters.

Any time not spent working or volunteering will generally find Christi on an airplane off to explore (at least until COVID).
