COMBATTING CYBER PROPAGANDA & DISINFORMATION IN A DIGITALLY ILLITERATE WORLD - Workshop Day 1

SUMMARY: This course is an active participation course that will engage participants and give them the tools they need to understand, assess, and take action related to cyber deception campaigns (CDCs). The course will introduce participants to the theory of CDCs, historical instances of CDCs, and how CDCs are conducted. This course will be taught over two days, and separated into 4 modules: Information Operations Theory, Analysis of Historical CDCs, Modern Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTPs), and Becoming the Operator.

Participants who pass this course will be given a certificate of completion demonstrating basic knowledge of online propaganda operations.

Bio: Chris Sampson is the Chief of Research for the Terror Asymmetrics Project on Strategies, Tactics and Radical Ideology (TAPSTRI). He has been conducting various operations to infiltrate extremist groups on the internet since 2009 including ISIS, AQ, white supremacists and other organizations. Beyond his day to day, he is most notably the New York Times Bestselling Author of Hacking ISIS - a book coauthored by Malcom Nance on the efforts to track, infiltrate and destroy ISIS online propaganda environment. Chris also acted as the lead researcher for Defeating ISIS, Plot To Hack America, Plot To Destroy Democracy and Plot To Betray Democracy, and as the researcher for 2nd edition of The Terrorists of Iraq. His twenty five years in media development for online marketing, development, server administration and infosec combined with his ten years in radio and television production for Pacifica radio, Free Speech TV, and other related organizations has equipped Chris with the polished skill set and specialized training in the art, culture, language and politics of India, Middle East and North Africa and South Africa.
