New to machine sewing? Used to sew but forgot how? This class is for you!

Machine Sewing 101 is a six-lesson course for beginners. We will start with the basics of sewing machine use and fabric selection and build on our skills as we progress. Each lesson will have a hands-on activity.

Lesson 3: Quilting 2: Pot Holder/Hot Pad
Lesson 4: Zippers and Pockets and Tote Bags, Oh My!
Lesson 5: Apparel Sewing: Using a Pattern
Lesson 6: Apparel Sewing: Drafting a Pattern

  • A very brief history of sewing
  • Mechanics and parts
  • Presser feet
  • Stitches
  • Fabric talk
  • Cutting woven fabric
  • Sewing woven fabric
  • Activity: Petal Drawstring Bag

THINGS TO BRING:

  • Sewing machine
  • Two fat quarters or two 12”x12” squares of fabric
  • String or ribbon
  • Coordinating thread
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Ruler

Don’t have a sewing machine? Unallocated does! We have two machines for use during class. Please email [events@unallocatedspace.org](mailto:events@unallocatedspace.org) and let us know if you need to use one. Reservations for a sewing machine will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
