GOING SUSTAINABLE IN AN ONLINE RETAIL BUSINESS - where do you start?

Plastic free, recyclable, compostable, eco friendly, reusable, circular economy, sustainable, waste, pricing, economics, ethical supply chain - when making decisions about sustainability in our e-commerce businesses ... there's a lot to consider! At the same time, more than 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enters the world's oceans every year.

LOUISE HARDNER of Plastic Collective will share her vision with us (via Zoom) to stop plastic becoming pollution, and how we can all play our part. Louise's presentation will include:

  • How to use different kinds of plastic in packaging so it is easier to recycle
  • Where to go / what to do with plastic that needs to be discarded
  • What alternatives are there?
  • An overview of Plastic Collective's innovative programs for businesses and individuals including: Plastic Neutral / My Plastic Plan / Recycled Plastic Marketplace / Plastic Credits.

REBECCA PERCASKY of The Better Packaging Co (based in NZ and Australia) decided to start improving the environment after seeing first-hand the amount of plastic waste generated by the eCommerce industry. They started with designing sustainable courier packaging and have since expanded their environmentally friendly packaging range; as well as investing in an extensive collection network so that people who don’t have a home composting system are able to dispose of their packaging responsibly. Rebecca and Kate will join us via Zoom too.

We are also excited to welcome Noosa-based online retailer, EVE CAMMELL of Love & Lee to our meetup in person. Eve will give us an insider's view of her 12-month old business which specialises in sustainable, organic, eco friendly baby products. Love & Lee designs all their products to be thoughtful, ethical, environmentally and socially responsible. Eve's business success was recently awarded a prestigious Gold STEVIE® AWARD in the 2020 ASIA-PACIFIC STEVIE AWARDS for Most Innovative Start Up Of The Year - Consumer Products! We look forward to hearing about Eve's lessons learned along the way to building an eco friendly e-commerce business.
