This 1-hour weekly mindfulness class introduces meditation practices in the Unified Mindfulness system that can be easily incorporated into daily life. The goal of Unified Mindfulness is to improve general well-being independent of life’s ups and downs by regularly practicing and improving concentration, clarity, and equanimity (aka mindfulness).
Each class includes a brief introduction to each meditation technique, a guided meditation, and a Q&A session. This is an 8-week class, but drop-ins are welcome. No prior experience with meditation is required. Chairs for seated meditation are provided, but participants are welcome to bring pillows and mats.
The instructor, Martin Spiering, PhD, is a UM-certified Level 2 Coach. He has practiced meditation for more than 10 years and worked as a researcher and educator for more than 15 years, including leading seminars and classes on meditation and philosophy of mind. UM is a secular mindfulness system developed by meditation teacher and research scientist Shinzen Young and is taught at many institutions and corporations.
