Professor Gafar Matanmi Oyeyemi is a distinguished Nigerian scholar and Professor of Statistics, specialising in Multivariate Analysis and its Applications, with strong expertise in Data Science. He obtained his B.Sc. (Second Class Upper) in Statistics in 1998, followed by an M.Sc. in 2003 and a PhD in 2009, all from the University of Ilorin.

Professor Oyeyemi joined the Department of Statistics at the University of Ilorin as a Graduate Assistant in 2001 and rose through the academic ranks to become a Professor of Statistics in 2019. He has an impressive record of mentorship, having supervised numerous undergraduate projects, over 30 M.Sc. dissertations, and 15 PhD theses. His research output is equally notable, with over 80 scholarly publications in reputable local and international journals, alongside wide participation in conferences and workshops across the globe.

He has rendered extensive academic service as an external examiner and assessor for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including assessments for promotion to Chief Lecturer, Reader, and Professor in many Nigerian universities and polytechnics. Beyond academia, Professor Oyeyemi has served as a consultant to institutions such as the Universal Basic Education Commission, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC), and KPMG Nigeria, and has been a resource person for training in STATA, SPSS, and R.

Within the university system, he has held several leadership and administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Statistics (2021–2024), member of the University Senate, Postgraduate Coordinator, Course-ware Coordinator, and Examination Officer. He is an active member of professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (formerly NSA), the Science Association of Nigeria, the International Biometrics Society, and the International Association of Statistical Computing.

Professor Oyeyemi currently serves as the General Secretary of the Offa Professors Forum, continuing his commitment to academic leadership, scholarship, and service to the statistical community.
