Full Moon and Lammas Lughnasadh Ceremony

Details

Lammas, also Lughnasadh, is celebrated around August 1 st as the “harvest of the first fruits.” The midway point between the Summer Solstice and Autumnal Equinox, Lammas (“Loaves Mass”) is a time of gratitude for the grains, corn, berries, and other foods ripening at this time. The Celtic God Lugh, whose name means ‘shining one,’ represents this time of Light and Sun’s bounty. His foster mother, Tailtiu, is said to have invented the cultivation of foods and farming for humans. Lughnasadh celebrates Tailtiu’s gifts with games and feasting.

Join us as we make “corn dollies” to acknowledge these gifts of first fruits while the Sun is still strong, and gather outside around a fire for the Full Moon of Lammas. We’ll also have a gratitude give-away – bring an item (spiritual or artistic) you no longer want, and take one home you do! Also bring what you need to be comfortable on a summer evening outdoors – chairs, water, etc. And instruments, poetry, anything you’d like to share!

Event Location: 8800 Seawell School Road, Chapel Hill, NC.
