UnityNYC December 2018 - Unity w/ Cocktails @ Betaworks!

Details

We're back at Betaworks in December with an ambitious event! Inspired by the terrifically-named Danish group of the same name, we're trying out "Unity With Cocktails" this month, featuring our usual high-quality networking & demo content alongside actual Unity-related cocktails (which we could still use help naming). Feel free to dress up accordingly and celebrate the season with us!

(We'll probably stick with pizza, though, because many of us are still software developers.)

In between the cocktail-ing, we'll have the following lineup this month:

Filip Baba - Arcadia Earth
Enter Arcadia: where immersive environments tell stories of sustainability, brought to life with augmented reality, projection mapping and experiential installations. Filip will showcase how AR is replacing and augmenting traditional installations and helping tell a more engaging story.

Kyle Kukshtel - Unity Data Management with CastleDB
Kyle will show off a fancy Unity workflow for using CastleDB, an intriguing open-source pseudo-DB built out of a JSON file, as an alternative to storing data in the usual ways (ScriptableObjects, AssetBundles, giant horrifying text file, etc. etc.) He'll show us how he keeps his game data nice, tidy, and even type-safe.

Spark in the Dark - Coquí Beat
Coquí Beat's pitch seems to be "Super Mario" meets "Crypt of the Necrodancer" - a 2D platformer set to music - which sounds to us like a terrific idea for a new game project. This small indie team used the Corgi Engine to pop their prototype, and is looking to take the project all the way. The early build shown here will show off acrobatic movements and complex terrain set to a beat.

As for timing, feel free to show up a little early, but as before we'll try to start at 7 on the dot to make sure we're done by 9.

As always, you can reach us for questions right here on Meetup, or via our channel (#uug-nyc) on the national usergroups slack at www.unityslackers.com. We're always happy to hear from the community, and we could use particular help this month in figuring out the cleverest-possible names for Betaworks's terrific-sounding cocktails.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you there!
