DUUG #24: Can I get a DUUG?

Details

THE STARS ARE RIGHT! The seas boil! The skies churn with unholy omens, gyromancers are turning at 90 degree increments, and in their trances the haruspex groan of AR Hololens and educational content for young coders! They soothsay DOOM! No, correction - they say DUUG! THEY PREDICT DUUG!

This DUUG is happening on Weds the 31st of July from 6.15-21.30pm!

We are pleased to announce that this event will be hosted by the good people at Dogpatch Labs and that we'll have their Vaults Event Room to ourselves on the night! Bring your colleagues, bring your friends - tonight, there's something for everyone!

In PRESENTATION A, reality will shift and twist - it will be AUGMENTED! Charlie Behan and Cormac White, two graduates of Computing in Games Dev at Dundalk IT present an overview of Augmented Reality (AR) Training Simulation for Mechanical Engineers using the HoloLens! Developed in Unity, and using the Microsoft Mixed-Reality Toolkit, they devised a gamified training experience for repairing the custom machinery of a partner company.

Charlie and Cormac will discuss the technologies used, reflect on developing training experiences and explore the challenges they faced! There will be an extensive Q&A on the project, and on employing AR in Unity.

PRESENTATION B comes to us from CoderDojo, a global volunteer-led community of free programming workshops for young people between 7 and 17! Everybody needs support when starting their coder journey - CoderDojo gives that assistance to the next generation!

Philip and Tara work with the Raspberry Pi and CoderDojo Foundations - Philip is a member of the informal learning team, which creates educational content and Tara supports the Irish CoderDojo community. Come to their talk, discover the resources available to support volunteers and learn how to get involved with this incredible initiative!

If you're bringing a project to playtest/show at DUUG, we encourage you to consider adding a scoreboard to the project! There's nothing like a little friendly competition to get people queuing up to take another crack at your game...! (And if you'd like some basic scoreboard code to get started, feel free to ask the DUUG organisers on the day!)

RSVP, ASAP! We'll see you there!
