DUUG #25: Live long and DUUG!

Details

"A CLASS-M PLANET, Captain. Gravity and atmosphere, close to Earth standards. Recommend we send a small away team to a gathering - a Unification ceremony, apparently. Command personnel and Science, of course... and send plenty of holograms and redshirts too. You never know..."

This DUUG is happening on Weds the 28th of August from 6.15-21.30pm!

We are pleased to announce that this event will be hosted by the good people at Dogpatch Labs and that we'll have their Vaults Event Room to ourselves on the night! Bring your colleagues, bring your friends - tonight, there's something for everyone!

Map here (https://goo.gl/maps/mvQZNj2buNE2). Website here (http://dogpatchlabs.com/) (pierce the veil with cybervision and... THE INTERNET!).

Holodecks? Old hat! What you need - is a Vologram! Volograms - an Irish startup that creates volumetric holograms (or volograms) of real-world people and objects - are essentially a video of 3D meshes and can be experienced in any 3D application, including AR and VR. The goal of Volograms is to make reality capture available to everyone!

For PRESENTATION A, Volograms’ lead software developer Patrick Geoghegan will speak about how they use Unity to add and play volograms in a 3D scene, as well as how volograms are integrated into AR and VR applications. He will speak about some of the challenges involved in integrating this technology into Unity...!

In PRESENTATION B, it's the mobile SPACE - THE FINAL FRONTIER! These are the voyages of DIGIT Game Studios, Ireland's biggest Game Development Studio (and a Scopely studio since May 2019!). Their continuing mission (amongst others) - to create STAR TREK: Fleet Command, a AAA mobile strategy MMO!

We're lucky enough to host Dominique Boutin, Head of Technology at DIGIT! Dominique has 9 years F2P Game Development experience, 19 years experience in Game Technology, 31 years programming and enjoying computer games AND was one of DUUG's very first speakers! We are incredibly excited to welcome Dominique back and we're excited to catch up with him (especially now some NDA's have expired! =P

If you're bringing a project to playtest/show at DUUG, we encourage you to consider adding a scoreboard to the project! There's nothing like a little friendly competition to get people queuing up to take another crack at your game...! (And if you'd like some basic scoreboard code to get started, feel free to ask the DUUG organisers on the day!)

RSVP, ASAP! We'll see you there!
