UNTIE — A Day at the Loom of Self
Details
You’ve spent years holding it together. Tied up in roles, expectations, the person everyone needs you to be. Somewhere along the way, the knots stopped feeling like protection and started feeling like you.
What if those knots were never the problem? What if they were the pattern?
This October, Unmute Self takes fifteen people out of the city and into a working weavers’ village, where hands have been tying, dyeing and weaving the same way for generations.
Here, between the clack of the loom and the silence of the indigo vat, we’ll do the work most of us keep postponing: noticing what holds us, and choosing what to loosen.
The destination stays a secret until we leave. The experience will stay with you much longer.
# The Journey: Five Threads, One Day
Each thread is a live, guided experience woven into the village itself, alongside the artisans who host us.
THREAD 1 · THE WARP What holds you up
- Arrive Unnamed: Step into the weavers’ courtyard and introduce yourself with no job, no title, no city. Only what you’re carrying today.
- The Silent Walk: Fifteen minutes of walking the village lanes without speaking. Notice what you hear when you stop filling the air.
THREAD 2 · THE KNOT What you bound to stay safe
- Tie Your Own: Under a master weaver’s guidance, bind a skein of thread. Each knot stands for something you learned to protect: a feeling, a dream, a part of you that went quiet.
- The Unsaid Circle: Seated among the looms, each person names one knot out loud, to a room that simply listens.
THREAD 3 · THE DYE What coloured you
- Into the Indigo: Dip your bound thread into the dye. Watch what takes colour and what resists. Some knots kept you safe. Some kept you small.
- Colour Lines: A reflective exercise tracing the voices, places and moments that shaped your shade.
THREAD 4 · THE LOOM Finding your rhythm
- The Weaver’s Lesson: Sit at a loom beside an artisan. Feel how warp and weft only become cloth when tension and release work together.
- The Shared Leaf: A home-cooked village lunch on banana leaves, eaten slowly, with our hosts. Their stories become part of yours.
THREAD 5 · THE UNTYING Reading your pattern
- The Reveal: Untie your knots and see the pattern they created. This is the heart of the day.
- One Line, One Thread: Write a single sentence to carry for the next 90 days and tie it to your thread.
- The Sunset Circle: To folk drums at dusk, name one thing you’re choosing to loosen, then pair with a stranger who becomes your check-in two weeks from today.
You leave with: your own hand-tied, hand-dyed thread, your one-line compass, an accountability partner, and fourteen people who saw you without the mask.
# Who This Is For
✔ You’re high-functioning on the outside and quietly tangled on the inside.
✔ You learn better through your hands and senses than through lectures.
✔ You want depth, not another feel-good day out.
✔ You’re ready to be honest in a small, safe circle of strangers.
Who this is not for
✘ If you’re in acute crisis or need clinical support, please reach out for that first. This program isn’t a substitute.
✘ If you’re looking for a sightseeing trip or a photo tour, this will feel too slow for you.
