The Cape Town Concert Series celebrates 70 years of music making with a unique series of concerts featuring the finest local and international artists.
On Saturday 10th May, UK based pianist Rebeca Omordia brings her African Pianism to the Baxter Concert Hall. The hour long concert will conclude with a short in-conversation with Rebeca about her musical journey.
Hailed as an “African classical music pioneer” (BBC World Service) and “a classical music game changer” (Classical Music), award-winning pianist Rebeca Omordia is an exciting virtuoso with a wide-ranging career as soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and artistic director.
Rebeca’s many recordings include the BBC Music Magazine Award-winning Piano Concerto by Errollyn Wallen, composed especially for her, with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by John Andrews.
Rebeca Omordia has spent the last decade pioneering repertoire by African classical composers, she has been unearthing and recording compositions by some of the continent’s influential past and present composers. She has toured worldwide her piano solo programme African Pianism described as “wild and shimmering piano gems” (The Guardian) and “Appealing and pioneering in equal measure” (Gramophone).

These morning concerts are the perfect start to the weekend running to around 12.30. As I organise these concerts I am not able to arrange a formal Meetup but please feel free to organise one or come on your own- concerts are the best for being part of a common crowd without any pressure.
