Beyond Games: Previs, Production & Real-World Applications
Details
Join Fish Flight Entertainment for a discussion exploring how Unreal Engine is being used beyond traditional game development as a real-time creative and production tool across film, television, virtual production, and live experiences. The session brings together perspectives of studio-scale output and technical Unreal practice, offering insight into how real-time tools are reshaping workflows, collaboration, and creative decision-making across multiple industries.About the Event
The evening will open with an introduction to Fish Flight Entertainment, led by Craig McEwen. Craig will provide context on Fish Flight’s work with Unreal Engine over the past nine years across film, episodic television, cinematics, and real-time pipelines. He will also share his perspective on the studio’s Vancouver roots and expansion into Winnipeg, and why the local creative and technical community is an important part of Fish Flight’s next phase.
Following a short reel, Craig will walk through how Unreal is used in practice at Fish Flight, particularly through previs, techvis, stunt planning, and virtual production and why real-time workflows have become central to modern storytelling and production.
The conversation will then shift to process and execution with Kentyn Prybylski, who will speak to his technical approach to building optimized, production-ready Unreal environments and cinematics. Kentyn will discuss workflow considerations, performance, and how Unreal continues to evolve across games, animation, and virtual production.
The session will also touch on extended uses of Unreal Engine outside of games and entertainment, including events, architecture, installations, and experiential design, followed by an open Q&A and community discussion.
Supplementary visuals and examples will be shown throughout, but the session is designed as a presentation and conversation, rather than a hands-on workshop.Speakers
