Unsung Live #12: Tuesday 24th July
NEW DATE ALERT! NEW DATE ALERT! That's right, we're back! Old hands know the drill but for all your first-timers and curious people out there, welcome to London's leading live-lit night exclusively for speculative fiction - sci-fi, fantasy, horror, ghost stories, folklore, slipstream, weird, dystopian, alt-history, whatever. We've had it all... Expect a friendly, informal night and a welcoming crowd. We'll get the readers and give them a microphone. You'll get a drink, maybe a burger, if you're feeling lush. And a few hours later we'll all go home having found a new writer to love. It's completely free, as always, and I'm delighted to say that this time it's all about the women. Guys, you've had your turn - move over. Reading this time we have: GAIE SEBOLD: Gaie's first published book was a poetry collection, Urban Fox (Tall Lighthouse Press, 2001). Her debut novel introduced brothel-owning ex-avatar of sex and war, Babylon Steel (Solaris, 2012) followed by the sequel, Dangerous Gifts. The steampunk fantasy, Shanghai Sparrow, came out in 2014 and Sparrow Falling in 2016. Her stories have appeared in a number of magazines and anthologies, including the BFS Award shortlisted anthology, Fight Like a Girl. She is a freelance copy-editor, runs writing workshops, grows vegetables and is a judge for the 2018 Arthur C. Clarke Award. Twitter: @GaieSebold | Website: ANNA STEPHENS: Anna Stephens is the UK author of gritty epic fantasy, the Godblind Trilogy, published by Harper Voyager. Book 1, Godblind, is out now and book 2, Darksoul, will be published on 23 August 2018. A literature graduate from the Open University, Anna loves all things speculative, from books to film to TV, including classic Hammer and Universal horror films, as well as the chameleon genius of David Bowie. As a beginner in Historical European Martial Arts and a second Dan black belt in Shotokan Karate, she’s no stranger to the feeling of being punched in the face, which is more help than you would expect when writing fight scenes. Twitter: @AnnaSmithWrites | Website: TIFFANI ANGUS: Tiffani's day job is as a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing and Course Leader for the MA Creative Writing at Anglia Ruskin University. A Clarion graduate and regular Milford attendee, she has published short fiction in SF, fantasy, historical fiction, horror and erotica. Her constant research interests are gardening history, and women's bodies in apocalyptic fiction, and she believes and avocado should be its own food group. RYM KECHACHA: Rym is a writer and teacher from London. She writes about dance for and contributed an essay for Dead Ink's 2017 anthology Know Your Place. AND MORE TBC...
