‼️DATE CHANGE: We will now be meeting on Saturday, January 3rd

Join us to discuss The Shining by Stephen King!

Jack Torrance’s new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he’ll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing.

But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote… and more sinister.

And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old (goodreads.com).

If you’ve seen the movie… get ready for the book. The movie is being re-released in IMAX for a few days in December to celebrate the movie’s 45th anniversary! Caroline and I are going to see it on Friday 12/12 @10:30 PM at AMC Empire 25, leave a comment if you are going too!

The Shining was published in 1977 and is King’s third published novel. It was later adapted into a 1980 film and 1997 miniseries. The sequel, Doctor Sleep, was published in 2013 and adapted into a film in 2019. The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado serves as the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel. King and his wife, author Tabitha King, checked into the hotel for a change of scenery and found themselves the only two guests there. King said, “‘that night I dreamed of my three-year-old son running through the corridors, looking back over his shoulder, eyes wide, screaming. He was being chased by a fire hose. I woke up with a tremendous jerk, sweating all over, within an inch of falling out of bed. I got up, lit a cigarette, sat in a chair looking out the window at the Rockies, and by the time the cigarette was done, I had the bones of the book firmly set in my mind’”.
