Imperial College London and Upstream are excited to invite you to join us at White City Innovation District for networking with the leading minds of our deep tech community.
Speakers
♻️ Sam Davies (Algreen): Sam is a Senior Scientist at Algreen, a renewable chemical company focusing on the development of sustainable and biodegradable solutions for a green future.Algreen is developing alternative products to replace plastics and harmful to the environment, unsustainable fossil-based products used in the majority of industries such as cosmetics, packaging, fashion, automotive, medical and many more.Sam obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.
👨‍💻Dr. Alex Ganose (Imperial College London): Alex is a Lecturer and EPSRC Fellow in the Department of Chemistry. His research uses computational materials chemistry, machine learning, and data science to design new materials for pressing technological problems, including renewable energy generation (photovoltaics & thermoelectrics) and energy storage.
Alex was awarded his EngD in chemistry from University College London in 2018 after which he undertook a postdoctoral position at Berkeley Lab, California. In 2021, he joined Imperial as an EPSRC Fellow. In 2022, he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry. He is a co-investigator at the Materials Project.
🏢Andrew Davies (Advanced Research Clusters): Andrew is a Director at ARC which creates spaces for science and innovation businesses to thrive. His real estate experience includes time at Imperial College London and Regus.ARC is backed by Brookfield Asset Management and its four clusters include Harwell, Oxford and Hammersmith.The ARC team has a 40-year track record and has delivered well over 3 million sq ft of science ready space, all on time and on budget.
🧬Dr. Miranda Matthews (Head of Ops, Sania Therapeutics): Miranda is the Head of Operations at Sania Therapeutics, a Hammersmith-based biotech that builds precision genetic medicines for neural circuit dysfunctionsMiranda was previously an Academic Tutor at the University of Sydney, before joining the University of Tasmania as an Academic Tutor. In addition she has also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Lab Manager at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour.Miranda obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Neuroscience from the University of Sydney.
🦿Dr. Johannes Staufenberg (Clinical Advisor, GO Assistive Technology): Johannes is clinical advisor for GO Assistive Technology, a social enterprise spun out of Imperial College London, on a mission to provide people globally with the most appropriate lower limb prostheses. Their innovation is powered by a strong collaboration with users, prosthetists, and manufacturers. It combines extensive data collection with frugal technologies to deliver disruptive prosthetic products and services that truly answer people’s needs.
Johannes is a medical doctor who completed an MRes in Medical Device Design & Entrepreneurship at Imperial's Department of Bioengineering. He is a Newton Venture Capital Scholar, a mentor at BiteLabs Healthtech and Innovation Fellowship and a Surgical Fellow in Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery at HCA Healthcare UK. Johannes was a 2023 National Finalist in the James Dyson Design Award.
