If you are staying in the city this Sunday afternoon, please join me on this colorful hike. From Chapman School we will hike up the west hills to the Portland Rose Garden and enjoy roses in full bloom. After ten minutes or so we'll take the trail up to two nice views overlooking the Japanese Gardens. Further up the groomed trail, we will come to Hoyt Arboretum Interpretive Center. After a short restroom stop if needed, we'll cross over Hwy. 26 and take the trail up to Council Crest. Enjoying snacks we brought, all will enjoy the 270 degree panoramic views from the top including Mt. Hood. Going back to our cars we will take the express way down as we pass beautiful homes, gardens and mansions on each block for home remodeling/gardening ideas. With spring flowers and trees in full bloom this will add to views on the way down. Our hike will be about five miles in length, with brief stops all along the way. Half of the hike on wooded trails and half on sidewalks.
Meet at Chapman School/Wallace Park. It’s near 23rd street in northwest Portland. Meet by the baseball field bleachers. Free, safe parking from NW 25th westward ie. most anywhere along the school/park or in the neighborhood. There are port-a-potties where we meet and at Council Crest, but very nice restrooms at the Portland Rose Gardens and Hoyt Interpretive Center. I do hope you can join us with delightful talk along the way.
