Addis Ababa Bound

Sheger, a new Ethiopian restaurant in North Cambridge, is named for Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It is a nickname for Addis Ababa, which in turn means “New Flower” in Amharic, the official language in Ethiopia.

Dining Ethiopian style means eating with your hands, using injera, a spongy flatbread, to pick up bites of stews and vegetables from large, round piece of injera. Sheger’s Facebook page says their injera is made with 100% teff flour, a traditional Ethiopian grain.

Being so new, Sheger, which is vegetarian-friendly, has not yet received many reviews. Google Reviews average 4.8 stars out of 5. Most Yelpers have liked it, while a few had criticisms: https://www.yelp.com/biz/sheger-caffe-cambridge

As always, I say let’s check it out for ourselves and have fun. Great or middling as the food may be, an evening's journey to Addis Ababa will always be an adventure.

Sheger is a short walk west from the Davis Square Redline stop. The Mass Ave 77 bus also goes right by. I’m not sure how street parking is in North Cambridge these days, so if you drive, allow plenty of time to find a spot.
