Worldviews -- a deconstruction
Kopitiam, 7 Jahamun-ro 4-gil, Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Se, KRWhere did it come from, your Worldview?
How was it shaped? By whom? All by yourself or ...
What were the influences and to what degree?
Family, school, friends, society, or personal experiences ...
Or textbooks, media, social media, movies, music ...
Or even random chance? How much credit to yourself as author of your Worldview in spite of all of the above?
If much of the troubles of the world are due to peoples' differences in perceptions of the world, what could be a way out of it?
Are there any problems with Worldviews anyway?
[From post-high school years]
How amenable to change are one's Worldviews?
Is it a good thing that one's Worldview changes?
What if changes are frequent?
Are changes signs of weakness or strength?
What makes a change good or bad?
What could be the standard(s) of a 'good' or a 'bad' change? We won't be as interested in knowing the WHAT of your Worldview as much as the HOW Worldviews come about.
In other words, less about the content of your Worldviews (subjective terrain) but rather attempt to breakdown HOW Worldviews get shaped in the first place (objectively speaking).
Glossary:
*Weltanschauung [veltänˌSHouo͝oNG]
Weltanschauung is a German noun meaning "world-view," representing a comprehensive, personal, or societal perspective on life, philosophy, and the universe. It encompasses an individual’s beliefs, cultural background, values, and assumptions about reality. Common synonyms include worldview, perspective, ideology, philosophy of life, or outlook.- Origin: German, derived from Welt (world) and Anschauung (view/perception).
- Context: It describes the overarching framework through which one views reality, including religious, ethical, or political lenses.
Examples in Context
- Personal Philosophy: "She possesses a Weltanschauung that is unremittingly positive" and "My political Weltanschauung is very different from the worldviews of most of my family members"
- Cultural & Intellectual: The term is used to describe deep-seated perspectives, such as in art, where exhibitions "lead viewers deep into the artist's Weltanschauung" or as in "This season's Oscar favorites... seem to fall into the élite bro-speak Weltanschauung ...".
