'Existential' Literature
Details
Stories with existential themes.
Any books that come to mind? Never mind the usual list that show up on an internet search. If there's any book that YOU feel deals with the theme, no matter who or where the book comes from, please share!
We'll start off with a member presenting a book, have a discussion thereof, and hear from participants of other sources (books/stories) suggestive of the theme (of the existential idea).
This won’t be an academic seminar on the theory of existentialism. We will rather explore the idea of it in colloquial terms, in a language that an 9th grader in high-school would understand. Of course prose expositions of its theoretical aspects that you may happen to know about would also be welcomed as it’d help us get some groundings. But just saying, no need to feel intimidated by theory; it’s good enough that we have a general idea of it -- a hunch, a gut feeling of sorts -- of what existentialism implies. But if not quite sure, well that is what this event is for: to explore.
So the default expectations are: that you know nothing about existentialism beyond what is stated in the definitions below; and that if any stories come to mind based on such renderings, to please bring them over!
What is existentialism in simple terms? (Google)
Existentialist philosophy encompasses a range of perspectives, but it shares certain underlying concepts. Among these, a central tenet of existentialism is that personal freedom, individual responsibility, and deliberate choice are essential to the pursuit of self-discovery and the determination of life's meaning.

(Wikipedia) … is a family of philosophical views and inquiry that explore the human individual's struggle to lead an authentic life despite the apparent absurdity or incomprehensibility of existence.[1][2][3] In examining meaning, purpose, and value, existentialist thought often includes concepts such as existential crises, angst, courage, and freedom.[4]
