What we’re about
Urban Sketchers Portland has been bringing artists together to draw the city since 2008. We're affiliated with the international nonprofit Urban Sketchers, a global community of sketchers dedicated to the practice of on-location drawing.
We usually meet up on the third Saturday of the month, at a location that is announced about three weeks ahead of time through our Facebook page, website, and email list.
At our events, we get together for a quick introduction, then everyone finds a spot to draw for a couple of hours, and then we meet up afterward to share our sketchbooks. Sharing your art is optional, but it's fun to see what everyone else has drawn.
These events are free and very casual. Most people draw in sketchbooks with ink, pencil, watercolor, or other portable art supplies, but bring whatever you like. Our only goal is to draw what we see and have a good time.

Join us for a couple of hours of urban sketching at SE Hawthorne & 37th!
Our group meets once a month around Portland to draw the city.
- No need to sign up, just show up!
- Bring a sketchbook and your favorite portable art supplies.
- Feel free to draw anything in the area that looks interesting to you--could be buildings, people, landscapes, or your coffee cup.
On Saturday June 21, we're meeting at the new pedestrian plaza on SE 37th and Hawthorne. There are picnic tables and a great view of the Bagdad Theater across the street.
Tov Coffee at 3639 SE Hawthorne opens early on Saturday for your caffeine fix, and Harder Day Coffee at 3757 SE Hawthorne is right around the corner.
10:00 AM: Meet in the pedestrian plaza for introductions
Noon: Meet back at the same location for a sketchbook throwdown where we share what we drew. Sharing your art is totally optional, but it's fun to see what everyone else has created!
We also announce these gatherings on our website, Facebook page, and email list. They're always free and open to anyone.
